Cat Gemmill gained her Honours Degree in Design for Textiles from the Scottish School of textiles, in the Scottish Borders. She then began working as an Artist, specialising in Painting and Pyrography, from her Glasgow based Studio.
Cat’s painting work is distinctive with its bright and lively colour palettes, always containing Prussian Blue, on larger scale canvases. She uses expressive brushstrokes and colour blending to achieve deep, moody grounds. Then compliments this with finer detailing of the subjects on top. Having grown up close to nature and studied in amongst rolling hills, nature has become my main inspiration. Her themes are relatable and enjoyable subjects including floral, wildlife and landscape studies. Her work isn’t meant to challenge the viewer, more to show the positivity we gain from being in amongst nature and how colour can impact and lift our mood.
Cat sells range of products using her artwork on Etsy. This collection includes Greeting cards, Art Prints & small homeware items. Her original work is for sale, please enquire by email if there is something you are interested in.
Pyrography artwork is the other side of Cat’s work. Making a range of personalised products, to suit the gifting occasion. Using UK sourced wood and an illustrative style, complimented with calligraphy writing, to create entirely unique artworks. Please find more information on this website.
Lastly, Cat is a proud Volunteer at the Six Foot Gallery in Glasgow. A gallery run by artists for artists. In doing this, she hopes to broaden her understanding of this industry and contribute further to the Glasgow art scene.
My Studio is at home, where I live with my partner and two adorable little Artists - Pablo and Claude. Who like to help with the general day to day tasks of my business. These two often appear on my social media stories!
